Smart Car Specifications:
The Smart Car MHD (Mycro Hybrid Drive) is derived from the economical 52 kW variant of the smart fortwo. It is currently available in the Smart Car's pure, pulse and passion models. The smart fortwo micro hybrid drive operates by utilizing idling phases to switch off the engine and temporarily completely avoid fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions. The car works with an automated manual transmission, already fitted in the vehicle.
Since studies show that in daily traffic many vehicles come to a stop every 1.3 kilometres on average, this is actually a new and efficient option for consumers. At it's core, the MHD has a belt-driven starter generator that supplies the vehicle with voltage and also serves as a starter. The technology allows the Smart Car MHD to start up the combustion engine in a fraction of a second as soon as the driver releases the brake pedal. This eliminates the usual method of a starter motor. This methodology allows for fuel saving of about 8 percent. Given heavy traffic, the figure shoots to about 13 percent. This system also provides significantly less CO2 emissions.
The MHD Smart was first introduced in October 2007.
